Our in-house behaviorist, Julie Jacobus (CPDT, ABCMT, CGC Evaluator), will teach fun, informative, and highly effective classes, private lessons, and workshops. Learn training skills that will enhance your bond and help your favorite Fido be their best self!

Meet our Dog Behaviorist, Julie Jacobus

Julie (JJ) has over 25 years of professional experience in training dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages. She is a former Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Animal Behavior College Mentor Trainer, and a member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants.

She also is a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, a charter member of the Pet Professional Guild, CARAT Evaluator, CLASS Evaluator, Operation Socialization Certified Trainer, and an American Red Cross Pet First Aid Instructor. She has conducted thousands of dog evaluations in both municipal shelters as well as smaller non-profits and rescues. She was a member of the board of the Humane Society of Calvert County.

Julie also conducted seminars for Your Dog’s Friend in Washington, DC about behavioral and aggression rehabilitation and the Baby Ready Pets program. Her former training company, Training by Julie and Associates, LLC was voted Best of Obedience and Behavior in Washingtonian Magazine in 2011. She is currently an Animal Protection Officer and the behavioral specialist with Lost Our Home Pet Rescue in Tempe, AZ.

Training Class Details

Each 5-week
class is $150

Basic Dog Training Class

Our basic level class is for dogs, 10 months and older without prior formal training. We cover the basic commands as well as other useful cues to help teach your manners in and out of the house.

You will learn: Sit, down, stand, settle, stay, wait, come, leave it, loose leash walking, back up, and go your place.

We will also address any problem behaviors: Jumping, mouthing, pulling on leash, door darting, etc.

Puppy Training Class

Our puppy class is for puppies up to 10 months old. We cover the basic commands and teach proper socialization and handling to get your puppy started on the right foot. We also address any problem behavior, you may have, including chewing, biting, jumping, house training, etc.

Canine Good Citizen/Intermediate Training Class

Our Canine Good Citizen Class is the next level past Basic Class. Your dog must have attended a basic or puppy class (either here or elsewhere) prior to enrollment to this class. This class is perfect for continuing your dog’s education, and we take the AKC  Canine Good Citizen test on the last day. This course is great for dogs that know their cues, but have a hard time performing with real life distractions.

All dog training classes are held at Lost Our Home Pet Rescue in Tempe

All training classes at Lost Our Home use positive motivational techniques to bring out the best in your dog and build a life long, trusting relationship. We do not use fear, force, intimidation, or punishment to get our dogs to listen to us. No choke chains, prong collars, or electronic shock collars.
